The Venetian’s long-silent music was assured a rebirth of immense proportions when it began to be available through the medium of the long-playing record, and an average of forty new Vivaldi recordings have been issued each year over the past thirty years. There are currently about two hundred recordings of The Four Seasons alone. Karl Heller’s biography of Antonio Vivaldi, originally published in Germany in 1991 in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the composer’s death, presents the most important facets of Vivaldi’s life, of his works, and of his influence on music history. This new English translation incorporates recent Vivaldi research by the author and others, providing new factual material and fresh insights, including the latest painstaking efforts at dating Vivaldi’s compositions. VIVALDI Work Catalogue (RV) Peter Ryom's "Vivaldi Work Catalogue" is the result of decades of research and critical source studies conducted by the author. For the first time ever, it contains all the works of Antonio Vivaldi with musical incipits and all essential information on the origin, transmissions, publications and reception of the works. It also consistently maintains the numbering of the "Kleine Ausgabe" (Short Edition) of 1974, the works since discovered were given the new numbers RV 751 to RV 809. In the Appendix there are overviews, a concordance and detailed registers which help make Vivaldi's vast �uvre accessible from every perspective. Peter Ryom born in Copenhagen in 1937, Peter Ryom lived in Paris until 1949. After concluding his studies in musicology at the University of Copenhagen, he was given a state fellowship to put together the "little" catalogue of Vivaldi's works published in 1974. Ryom qualified himself as a professor in 1977 and worked at the Danish Radio from 1980 to 2002.
